Re: install websm

websm is graphical, so you need to set the DISPLAY variable.
How do you connect to this machine? Serial or locally over attached keyboard and Monitor (has this modell a graphics card?). Or via telnet or ssh session? Depending on what you use ...

Cheers seth

Re: install websm

So you have to do a export DISPLAY:<youripadress>:0.0 and need a Xserver running on the machine where you connect from via telnet. If its a windows machine I recommend to install xming (google for it). The command "who" in the telnet session should tell you over wich ipadress you are connected.

Cheers seth

Re: install websm

OK,
So if i understant, I 've to install xming on my windows machine.
Set DISPLAY variable on my AIX with the windows machine IP adresse.
And start xserver on my AIX.
Is it that?

Re: install websm

Almost, install xming on windows, start it there (it's an xserver for windows).
export the DISPLAY variable on your AIX machine and then launch "websm" or "xclock" (xclock should give you an graphical analog-clock).
One hint, maybe you need to install the xming fonts-package as well when you getting an error about an font-server or something similar. On Windows just start xming, not xlaunch, which gets installed by xming too.

Cheers seth

Re: install websm

Thank in advance,

For the moment, when i launch xclock , I have this message:
xclock
Error: Can't open display: 192.168.0.2:0.0

==> 192.168.0.2 is my windows machine ip

And when I launch X, I've this massage:

X
ioctl on display: Bad file number
1362-011 The X Server can only be run from lft terminal.

Here the command I've done for the DISPLAY variable:

export DISPLAY=192.168.0.2:0.0

Re: install websm

Please check if Xming is running (there should be an icon in your windows systray and when you moseover it should read "Xming Server:0.0"). Most likely your windows machine has the firewall active and blocks that traffic. Please check that. There is another way too with putty and ssh but thats more complex when you don't use ssh...

Happy weekend

Re: install websm

Hi

Seems like I forgot to tell that xming has a setting for that. Ok start Xming for that via Xlaunch (be sure that you stop a perhaps still running Xming in your Systray before that) choose "Multiple windows" -> "Start no client" -> mark the checkbox "No Access Control" leave the rest on default setting.
I never had to set this because I use putty with ssh and X11 tunneling which don't need the "No Access Control" switch set.
Hope that solves your problem.
