Hello! I am prestty nwe to aix and unix. I have a test box that I have been practicing on. This morning I recieved an email that contained the following line over and over. Error Report errpt -A To Clear errclear #days to keep --------------------------------------------------------------------------- LABEL: NONE Date/Time: Thu Jul 13 23:58:52 EDT Type: NONE Resource Name: ide0 Detail Data 0001 0020 0000 0000 0000 0001 00A0 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0C00 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0150 5050 5050 5050 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am looking to try and find out what this error means and how to get it to stop, as I said the entry lists this specific error about 100 times starting yesterday at 8:00 am EST until the above entry. These entries are timestamped approxiamately 3 per minute. Does anyone have a clue what this could be? |

You're getting an error on your IDE controller. Is the CD/DVD in use when this is happening? This is called sense data: 0001 0020 0000 0000 0000 0001 00A0 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0C00 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0150 5050 5050 5050 IBM hardware support can decode that and tell you the issue is exactly. It might be something as simple as a dirty laser on the CD or bad media.

You were getting the error with the CDROM attached but not in use?

Thats odd for an inactive CDROM to be putting out errors all of a sudden. Did you upgrade microcode at any point prior?

Its a very strange looking error log message too. I've never seen an error log without a label. Nor have I seen an IBM error log message that did not have more details like probable cause, recommended actions, etc. I'm wondering if this is coming from third party software.

Yes, it sure is, but it does contain hardware sense data. Unfortunately, IBM will certify vendor hardware based on minimal driver support. My guess is the IDE controller is such a case.
