Hard to get such tings, even for the instructors for the certification workshops is it hardly possible to get a copy of the test. Often the handed out test exams are stone-old and do often not match the real question catalog. If you're going for the C.A.T.E Certification I recommend to make it easier for yourself and skip hacmp (its one of the toughest ones) and go for Admin and Support, Performance and System Tuning, Installation Backup and Recovery and Communications. That's all you need to get the "Certified Advanced Technical Expert (CATE)" Title.
Above writings reflect my knowledge status what it was like 2 years ago, maybe IBM altered the certification way...

Hi Aqeel,

Use to have some, might be at home, might be the previous HACMP can't remember... but I shouldn't say you should focus on it at all...

Go through the HACMP Certification redbooks and know your stuff. I got some test years back, glimpsed at it and just decided that it's not the road I'm going to take.

In the test they have various different LONG questions so it's anywaz impossible to remember. Bottom line, know HACMP. It's the purpose of writing the test right. To certify and also prove to yourself that you are on that level.

I'd say for this test, know AIX, HACMP, some problem resolution, backup & recovery and performance - but the first two are the most important.

Good luck!

Re: IBM HACMP 000-237 Practice Test?

Hi,

I have recently sat and passed (just about) the HACMP exam. It was a tough one. The main problem I had with it, was that it hasn't been updated with 5.3 and 5.4 specifics and is more geared towards 5.2, specifically questions relating to cluster verification etc. I also felt that a number of the questions were a little vague where not just 1 of the answers (in my opinion) would have been feasible

All said, tough exams are a good challenge and shouldn't be swung clear of because they are tough. Simply taking another exam because it is "easier" is not the way to go (in my opinion)

HTH

Steve (CATE, HACMP/VIO/AIX/SystemP)

Maybe the question catalogs are now much better, 3 years ago they seemed to come straight from another course, something more business-skill-orientated not just tricky questions for "hardcore techs". There were questions were you knew that you have to answer them wrong to get the point! Man, in this circumstance I choose whatever it takes to make the exam easier. I've done this certification thing now 6 times over 8 years and I passed them all but never enjoyed one of them. I just hate questions that are imprecise or need "custom" answers. I want to challenge my skill not my creative brain hemisphere.

Cheers seth

Re: IBM HACMP 000-237 Practice Test?

Always keep in mind that the IBM certification tests aren't designed for system administrators to test/prove their knowledge and abilities.

For good or bad, they are intended for the technical sales staff of IBM partners to show that they have the skills to interpret customer requirements, design custom solutions, explain the value of the solution and properly implement them.

That's why you get so many custom design questions.

Re: IBM HACMP 000-237 Practice Test?

That's a good point! I thougt the cause for the strange questions is because ibm consits of more managers as technicans (wicked tongues say that ibm has a 1:2 ratio between managers (2) on technicians (1)).
Maybe my last response to this topic was to rude. The certifications are not that bad. You just have the feeling the questions are not made by technicians, more by the above mentioned managers
Whish you luck!
