Hi all, I want to increase the size of logical Volume in more than one Volume Group. Let's say, My Vg is sd6 which has lv1, lv2 and lv3. The sd6 vg has limitation on size. I want to extend my logical Volume (lv1) to another Vg for e.x. sd5 which has considerable amount of space. How can i perform this. Thanks, Sailesh |

Hi One of the features of LVM is allowing you to group file systems on several disks with the option that one file can be splitted on several disks belonging to the same Volume Group. You need all those disks to be under control of the same VG in order to do what you want. Your cannot extend your LV over another disk unless that one belongs to the same VG. You can move the whole LV with its corresponding FS to a new VG with space: http://www.pimpworks.org/ibm/cplv.txt Logical Volume Manager Basics HTH

Hi You can actually add disk space in form of LUNs if your system is based on a SAN or as physical disks if you have some of them you can use. If so, you hace to add those disks to the VG and expand the correspondent File Systems. HTH
