Hi Guys, Does anyone know how I can change the default baud rate on a p520 running aix5.3 from 19200 to 1200 baud? I haven't got a HMC, only a IBM infowindow display. I'm trying to connect a UPS to vty2 (serial T2) but it's not wanting to play, and I suspect it's a baud rate issue (ups expecting 1200). thanks for your help. |

Thanks for the reply, I don't seem to have a 'Baud' option in 'smit tty', it lists everything else you could imagine to do with vty2 but not baud? Here's my options: TTY TTY type TTY interface Description Status Location Parent adapter PORT number Enable LOGIN TIME before advancing to next port setting TERMINAL type FLOW CONTROL to be used STTY attributes for RUN time STTY attributes for LOGIN LOGGER name STATUS of device at BOOT time STREAMS modules to be pushed at OPEN time INPUT map file OUTPUT map file CODESET map file POSIX special control characters: INTERRUPT character QUIT character ERASE character KILL character END OF FILE character END OF LINE character 2nd END OF LINE character DELAY SUSPEND PROCESS character SUSPEND PROCESS character LITERAL NEXT character START character STOP character WORD ERASE character REPRINT LINE character DISCARD character Apply change to DATABASE only |

no, its a ups. ok, i've got it sorted now. I went into ASMI (by plugging a terminal into serial 1 when the server was in standby), option 2, then option 6. select the serial port and change the baud rate there. That fixed it, and everything looks to be connecting now. Thanks for your help anyway. |

I do get comms continually between aix and the ups, but this must just be comms check and status report, though I don't see why all the data needed, should just heartbeat every 30 secs. |

Probably. I never had an UPS connected to an AIX so I don't know the ammount of traffic in "normal" opperation. But I had a lot of problems, years ago, because of a tty with login enable connected to an async port of a Motorola X.25 PAD. The wellcome messages of the pad was being sent producing a login error, then the pad would read the error as his login and produce a login error, then that erros was sent to the aix producing another login error... And so on... LOL... |
