Yes, the the hscroot user can not "keep an open terminal open", he gets the 1/2 sec header bar and that it. But If you logon as an other user on the HMC, you open a terminal. I tried a remote login by WebSM as hscroot and it works OK. |

Yes, we updated to 5.2. Only hscroot and only on the HMC itself, is this problem. The terminal tries to open, and you see it (or just the top bar) for a second. Then it's gone. Is this an option to hide the window - if so how do you un-hide it. |

I encountered a similar problem where I was only getting a few unreadable characters on the terminal session and the console for the partition was unusable. Keyboard input did not work at all. I could power on/off the partition via the HMC, but that was it. I created an IBM PMR and they suggested the following with actually FIXED the problem. Since I didn't find this tip via google, I will post it here for the benefit of other AIX admins. Here is IBM's response: "If you look at the properties of the managed server from the HMC you will like see that Manufactoring Default Configuration (MDC) is True. This is the default mode that servers are shipped with and for HMC managed servers the MDC mode needs to be exited. You get one opportunity each time you power on a server from Power Off to Partition Standby to exit MDC mode. When the first partition is activated, a panel might appear stating that the managed system is currently in the manufacturing default configuration (MDC). Select the Exit MDC using partition profile activation option. Once you exit MDC mode you will be able to use the vterm as a console device for you LPAR(s)." |
