When I originally set-up the server I gave it a static IP address and all worked fine, i.e. I could ping by IP or DNS name. However last week we moved a group of servers onto a different domain and these now need to use dynamic IP addresses. Now, I have set it so that it knows where the DHCP / DNS server is and it obtains an IP address with no problems, however I can't get it to register its hostname with the DNS server so that I can ping by DNS name. It seems that when I go through the networking part I need to pass in a dotted IP address, which would be fine if the server was never rebooted, but this won't work in the real world. Can anyone help please? Thanks

Hi Fred, I don't believe I'm using NIM (after reading your other thread) so I don't need to worry about this. How can I tell whether the bos.net.tcp.client is installed - I already have an IP address so does this mean that it's installed? I'll try changing the dhcpcd.ini file. Thanks Nick

I do: lslpp -ch | egrep bos.net.tcp The official way is: lslpp -ch bos.net.tcp.client
