Errrrm, I'd really advise going on the HACMP course before you try to install HACMP. If thats not an option then try this: IBM Redbooks | Implementing High Availability Cluster Multi-Processing (HACMP) Cookbook

If you only have one machine then I'd query whether or not HACMP as a cluster will actually be of use, what happens if the ceiling falls on the server? Don't Laugh its happened.

Re: HACMP configuratio

That book is about as simple as it can be made unfortunately. There is alot of overhead in understanding HACMP, or any other clustering method.

If you type smitty hacmp you can find that there is an Initialization and Standard Configuration option that you can choose to try and make the cluster work.

Use the redbook like to fathom out what to set for each of the options. Unfortuately all HACMP implementations are different hence why there is no simple step plan.

Good Luck - and go pester a manager about the course - the HACMP one s of enormous value.

ahameedoo,

You can found another interesting documents at:

IBM UNIX servers: Library - High Availability Cluster Multi-Processing (HACMP) for AIX documentation

This is the official IBM HACMP documentation, including "Concepts and Facilities", "Planing Guide", "Admin Guide" and "Troubleshooting Guide".

Regards,

Luciano.

Thumbs up Re: HACMP configuratio

I have a 80 page document that I created for a customer that we were consulting on implementing a two node cluster with SSA with three NIS and two networks.

It covers the installation of the firmware update. The installation of the OS, the Installation of the patches, the Installation of the HACMP software, the installation of the HACMP software pathces, the installation and configuration of the SSA. The configuration of the volume groups, the volume group mirrors, and the mirrored file systems.

The next thing it goe into is the testing of the serial ports, for heart beat, the testing of the SSA adapter for heart beat etc.

The real difficult thing to get a handle on is the ceation of the persistant IP addresses. That is a real un-natural act if you get my drift.

Once you get all that stuff done you issue the command
'smit hacmp,
go into network topology and run the discovery tool.
When that runs you configure the IP, and non IP point to point networks.

Once you got that done, you run the verification and the synchronization tool.
If that runs free of errors you are home free.

The above mentioned document is pretty much a here is the screen scoll down to the the option and select. No real understaing why you are doing it but as the say in the Nike commercial just do it. If you want me to send it to you send me a email. Of course I will have to sanatize it to remove all the customer info.
But I think it is a good road map of what you need to do, and how to do it with out understanding squat.
