gnu tar on AIX 5.3

I am attempting to install gnu tar under AIX 5.3. Is there a package that I can use to install via smitty install? We have some tars that were made with an absolute path and gnu tar will strip off the first /. Is gnu tar the only utility that will do this?

thanks

HI, I'm trying to get gnu tar, but the link referenced in this thread is dead. Anyone else point me to an RPM binary package?

Cheers, Pete.

Sorry what I should have said was that yes, the link to the tools download page works, but the tar rpm link seems dead to me.

Cheers, Pete.
