Question FTPS software from AIX to MVS

Is anyone out there using software to do secure ftp's (sftp or ftps) to get data from a MVS system to a AIX 5.3 system? We tried using cURL 7.15.1 with SSL but ran into problem with this. Was told that a new version of cURL would be out soon but that was in March and still nothing. We would prefer freeware for this as we only need to do a handfull of ftp's to the MVS system. THANKS! - Greg

Re: FTPS software from AIX to MVS

Does the MVS box have sshd / sftp-server running then ? if so then either use openssh sftp -b batch_file (to batch input commands) or scp to grab the data ..

HTH

I am grappling with the same issue. It looks like Curl with SSL compiled or something called lftp is the way to go, but I haven't gotten it to work yet. One very ugly cludge that I came up with ( and almost don't want to admit to) is putting a sshd / cygwin client on a Windows box and using a free command line utility there called 'MoveIt Freely'. I can actually kick it off remotely from AIX via ssh and then scp back anything that got with 'ftps' from the client. They claim that unix folks have gotten curl to work, but I don't think it was with MVS.

Re: FTPS software from AIX to MVS

Hi

One option would be to configure IP Security on both Mainframe and pSeries so encripted communications can be achieved.

Hope this helps

Cool Re: FTPS software from AIX to MVS

The MVS box that we are trying to connect to doesn't belong to us and they have no plans to implement ssh or anything else on it that we could use. Does anyone know anything about using ProAtria's SftpPlus and if this would help to resolve our needs? THANKS - Greg
