Is there any specail procedure I need to do to clear the /etc/security/failedlogin file or can I just delete it and recreate it?

It is getting pretty big.

Not realy but may be beter for you to use the nulladm command to do this
look at man nulladm

the command is located in /usr/sbin/acct/nulladm


We take a copy of the old file and then clear it using nulladm
