Hi list, I am getting the following error during AIX 5.3 new installation on a P550 machine: Finished processing all filesets. System Installation Time: 2 hrs 24 mins Tasks Complete: 93% Method error (/usr/lib/methods/cfgefscsi -2 -l fscsi0 ): 0514-061 Cannot find a child device. FAILURES -------- Filesets listed in this section failed pre-installation verification and will not be installed. Missing Filesets ---------------- The following filesets could not be found on the installation media. If you feel these filesets really are on the media, check for typographical errors in the name specified or, if installing from directory, check for discrepancies between the Table of Contents file (.toc) and the images that reside in the directory. devices.pci.86807910 devices.pci.86808a11 devices.pci.ethernet devices.pci.pciclass.020000 << End of Failure Section >> Method error (/usr/lib/methods/cfgefscsi -2 -l fscsi0 ): 0514-061 Cannot find a child device. The installation stops at 93% with the error above....looks like it has to do with HBA interfaces....after that, when booting to AIX (and not the CD) the screen below appears: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to AIX. boot image timestamp: 15:13 01/30 The current time and date: 19:42:18 01/30/2010 number of processors: 8 size of memory: 32000MB boot device: /pci@800000020000003/pci@2/pci1069,b166@1/scsi@0/sd@5,0 kernel size: 13421062; 64 bit kernel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0514-440 cfgcon: failed to create log file: check path name, permissions, and av ailable space DIAGNOSTIC OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS LICENSED MATERIAL and LICENSED INTERNAL CODE - PROPERTY OF IBM. (C) COPYRIGHTS BY IBM AND BY OTHERS 1982,1991-1995. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. These programs allow you to enter diagnostics, service aids, single user mode, or low-level maintenance mode. The diagnostics should be used whenever problems with the system occur which have not been corrected by any software application procedures available. In general, the diagnostics will run automatically. However, sometimes you will be required to select options, inform the system when to continue, do simple tasks, and exchange diskettes. Several keys are used to control the diagnostics: - The Enter key continues the procedure or performs an action. - The Backspace key allows keying errors to be corrected. - The cursor keys are used to select an option. To continue, press Enter. What do I have to do to finish the installation and configure Network so I can telnet to the machine normally? Could be that the CD media have any problem? Any help is appreciated. Mario |

Looks like your media might be too old to have all the required drivers for your system. Try asking your sales person for a media refresh at the latest AIX 5.3 TL and try again. What machine type and model is the server and what TL is the media? What type of fibre adapters are in the system? |
