base on my understanding mksysb is a command to backup AIX OS and Alt_inst_rootvg is if you have a mirrored rootvg you will break the mirror. you have two copies of OS which is on the first disk and the second. the good thing of this is you can install another OS on the other disk and change boot disk if the installation is unsuccessful you can rollback to the other disk which is your old old AIX installation. |

Altinst_rootvg This is an Alternative backup of rootvg, that means using this command we can take the backup of rootvg in same kind of disk sets as it is in rootvg disk. And we can boot from the backup disk after completing the backup. we can use in the time of TL upgarde or OS migration. Mksysb Using this command we can take the OS(rootvg) backup in Tape, in disks, we can take the backup in compressed file format. Mksysb backup can't be used directly as like altint_rootvg. After sccuessfull restoration of the mksysb backup we can able to use. Last edited by viswa_cp; July 1st, 2009 at 03:50. |
