(d)sense data analyser for errpt sense data

Hi

I worked for IBM long time ago and the hardware technicans had a tool called dsense data analyser in the ibm intranet (http://starbase5.austin.ibm.com/cgi-bin/hardware/dsense/dsense_form.sh). This tool could convert the cryptic hex of errpt entries like this:

to a detailed report that tells what here the problem is.
I tried a simple hex to ascii conversion with poor result. The only thing I got clearly visable is my typ/model/serial and I know easier ways to get theese. I know it's an internal IBM support tool but maybe there is somehow a comparable tool out for the rest of the world to use. Or does anyone has a script to convert the hex garbage into somting more readable?
I'm just tired to send ibm each sens data we get. We get a smaller one of the above for each FC adapter Problem. FC Adapter problems are not uncommon at our site and opening for a PMR for each, just to hear from IBM "the sensdata analysis says that the FC switch gave a wrong response" or somthing like that, is getting annoying.
Anyone can help?

Cheers seth

Re: (d)sense data analyser for errpt sense data

There is no external tool AFAIK ..

The DSENSE and RSENSE tooling was written in conjunction with the hardware docs, so, you could if you had a free couple of hundred hours write a tool for yourself.

i.e. Fibre Channel Sense Data Could be taken from the relevant Hardware Documentation ..

Well thanks a lot, I didn't knew that the documentation for the FC adapters could be that useful! This helps me a lot. Thank you Mark!

Re: (d)sense data analyser for errpt sense data

As we speak of IBM internal tools ist there still the good old RSINFO page out there where each piece of hardware could be easily found? Found several old PDF versions of it in the Internet. The newest was a corrupt one from the year 2007. Is there somewhere a newer version of this juwel?

Cheers seth

Re: (d)sense data analyser for errpt sense data

The last RS INFO revision was March 2007, the newer information is now all on the IBM hardware info centre so RS INFO is a depreciated tool.

p series / systemp / POWER stuff:

IBM

RS6k and early p series stuff: (rather oddly on the software site)

pSeries and AIX Information Center

Re: (d)sense data analyser for errpt sense data

Oh well (/irony on) the deeply loved (/irony off) infocenter. IBM has a hand for dumping really practicable Information sources and replace them by awful desinged junkpiles of information. Just like the install log 95% copyright info and 5% usable info. But who cares - we are getting used to it ^^.
Thanks for the info duke
