These URLs might direct you closer to what you are looking for. it looks like bootp is still being used though but it's essentially talking about network boot from firmware. So may be there are more commands at the firmware level that will let you do what you want to accomplish without using bootp. You also should consider disabling firewall between subnets sepcially for port 67 & 69 during NIM installations. hth
