If you do opt to use the IVM then ALL the hardware is allocated to the IVM partition and all further LPARS are strictly virtual - at least according to the instructions.
IVM is also limited as to the number of VLANs you can define.
For a 505 I suspect that won't be a problem, but you never know.
If you are unsure then use the System Planning Tool to investigate your options.
The virtualisation featur code is 7940, and you need one for every active CPU in your system. Without this you cannot use Virtual I/O or micro-partitioning.
