I just talked to a ce about this and he didn't know what I was talking about. He pointed me to an infocenter movie that through clever editing, glosses entirely over this issue:

The top video deals with the port in question, the bottom video deals with the 'normal' port. The first part of the videos show removing the cards from each place. The second part of each video are the exact same footage, which only makes sense for the bottom video. Then the third video shows a small height card being placed back into the machine, but it is not the card in question. Frame for frame the second parts of the second video are the same, but clearly the process can not be repeated for both sides as it is possible to see that the slots are different.
