I don't know if this helps, but I am happily running 5.3 TL5 on my 44P-170 at home. It works fine although there are some "interesting" features to the install. Note that not having the graphics installed switches off the options for EAL4+/CAPP security on the install.... and that installing 5.3 seems have greater requirements from the multisync monitor than for 5.2 on a 44P-170.
